In 2027, Friuli Venezia Giulia will once again take centre stage in international youth sport by hosting EYOF 2027 – the European Youth Olympic Festival, Europe’s most important youth multisport event.
The nineteenth summer edition of the event will take place mainly in Lignano Sabbiadoro, with additional stages across cities, towns and sports facilities throughout the region.
An international event with wide participation, designed to welcome young athletes from all over Europe and turn sport into an opportunity for encounter, inclusion, growth and sharing.
The starting point is the famous spiral-shaped “snail” layout conceived and designed by Marcello d’Olivo for Lignano Pineta.
This iconic shape inspired the EYOF 2027 logo: a soft, dynamic, recognisable and generative form, created using the colours of the five Olympic rings together with a golden tone that evokes the sand of the seaside resort.
In the icons for the different sports disciplines, the snail shape is transformed each time into running, jumping and movement, ideally embracing disciplines, cultures and stories from all across Europe.
The institutional typeface chosen for the project is a structured sans serif, designed to interact with the softness of the logo and create a coherent contrast.
The brand book defines the rules for using the visual identity, ensuring consistency across all communication tools and allowing the project to live in an organised way across a wide range of different media.
The applications developed include materials for conferences and official presentations, such as roll-ups and supports, as well as institutional apparel, including branded polo shirts, T-shirts and accessories, merchandise, the website designed in UX and UI to translate the event identity into a clear, accessible and recognisable digital experience, and also maps for athletes, infographics, information materials, competition materials, TNT banners, inflatables, signage, city dressing and dedicated installations for the cities and sports facilities involved.
Alongside the main identity, the project also includes the development of the event’s official mascots.
The first is Doro, an illustrated lizard created through the talent of a student. Doro features a curled tail as a tribute to the spiral of Lignano, while the bandage it always wears on its tail represents both the athlete who never gives up — just like a lizard, which can lose its tail and then grow it back naturally — and also recalls the armband of a team captain.
The second is Luma, a mascot born from an inclusion project developed with Fondazione ProgettoAutismo FVG. Designed by an autistic child, Luma is a small, colourful and immediate character that will be applied to dedicated materials, including special complimentary keyrings.
With, on one side, the institutional strength of a European Olympic event and, on the other, the energy of young people, all that remains is to enjoy the show.
